Day 1 – East Crete Itinerary 🌅
Hello! 👋
Attached is a detailed itinerary for a fun and interesting day trip in Crete 🗺️.
My recommendation: For the first day, find accommodation at any point that suits you between Heraklion and Hersonissos / Sissi / Malia 🏨.
Stop 1: Sissi Village 🏘️
Sissi is a beautiful and pastoral Greek village 🌿. You can take a stroll along the shore and the lovely marina ⛵, take a dip in the sea 🌊, grab a coffee, or enjoy a local meal.
You can park in this free parking lot and walk a short distance into the village 🅿️:
☕ Cafe Bar in a Perfect Location
🍴 Excellent Taverna right on the Bay (5 min walk from parking)
🚶♂️ Short Walking Path around the marina and a swimming spot near the Palm Grove
Tip: Take a nice walk on both sides of the bay. I recommend opening the Google Maps links in “Satellite View” 🛰️ to see the beauty of the area from above.
Stop 2: Elounda & Scenic Viewpoints 📸
On your way to the picturesque town of Elounda, there are two viewpoints very close to each other that you shouldn’t miss:
1️⃣ First Viewpoint (Mark this as your first stop after Sissi)
2️⃣ Second Viewpoint (3-4 minutes drive from the first)
Continue driving to this spectacular beach near Elounda, via a truly beautiful coastal road 🏖️:
Right next to it, you can find this beach which offers some shaded trees 🌳:
These beaches are located on the Kalydon Peninsula, overlooking Elounda. The scenery is breathtaking, and the drive itself along the water’s edge is stunning 🌊.
Optional: If you’d like to explore further, there are additional nearby beaches accessible by light dirt roads or on foot 👣:

Stop 3: Spinalonga Island (The Leper Island) 🏝️
The boat trip to the famous “Leper Island” (Spinalonga) is a wonderful experience ⛴️. The island itself is beautiful and full of history. The boat ride takes about 20 minutes each way through the beautiful bays.
Boat Trip Details:
⏱️ Stay on the island: 30-60 minutes (you can stay longer and return on a later boat from the same company).
📍 Departure point: Elounda.

Stop 4: Agios Nikolaos ✨
The charming town of Agios Nikolaos (the 4th largest in Crete) is about a 30-minute drive from the beach 🚙.
From the parking lot, walk around Lake Voulismeni 💧, located right in the center. There are many lovely cafes right on the water’s edge.

Feel free to get a bit lost in the charming alleys of the town to truly feel the local atmosphere (just remember where you parked! 🙂 🚗).
